Irreversible Entanglements ft. Helado Negro – Juntos Vencemos
Irreversible Entanglements share “Juntos Vencemos”, the third single from their forthcoming album Future Present Past, due March 27 on Impulse!. The quintet — vocalist Camae Ayewa (Moor Mother), trumpeter Aquiles Navarro, saxophonist Keir Neuringer, bassist Luke Stewart, and drummer Tcheser Holmes — recorded the album at the legendary Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey, and “Juntos Vencemos” features guest vocalist Helado Negro. Their previous album was Protect Your Light (2023).
The band’s account of how the track came together is worth reading in full: “At one point in our recording session at Rudy Van Gelder studio, we gathered spontaneously in the center of the main room, collected our percussion and, without plans or fanfare or being told what to do, commenced collaborating in the moment. A moment of trust, listening, and action. Such acts honor the human divinity of togetherness and unity, in order to create a multidimensional healing force beyond the power of singularity. Outside authority, boxes, quotas. What more needs to be said that won’t land the sayer on a watchlist, in a cage, or worse?” The title translates as “together we overcome”. The song earns it — funky, spacious, built from collective momentum rather than arrangement. Helado Negro’s presence fits the track’s bilingual, diasporic character without forcing it. I find this band most compelling precisely when they let spontaneity do the structural work, and this is one of those times.
